the battle at yorktown
The battle at Yorktown took place on September 28, 1781. This battle was by far the most important battle fought in the revolution. There were 17,00 french and Colonial troops ready for battle. Against General Lord Charles Cornwallis and 9,000 british troops. General Washington sent Marquis de Lafayette and an army of 5,000 troops, to block Cornwallis' escape from Yorktown. While the French naval fleet blocked the british escape by sea. By September 28, 1781 Washington had completely trapped Cornwallis. Cornwallis surrendered to Washington in the feild at Yorktown on October 17, 1781 effectively ending the war for independance.
