The battle of saratoga
There were 2 battles fought in Saratoga, fought 18 days apart. The first was September 19, and the other was October 7, 1777. This Battle was a major turning point in the American Revolution. British general John Burgoyne achieved a small, costly victory over the American forces led by Haratio Gates and Benedict Arnold. He again attacked americans at Bemis Heights, but this time was defeated and forced to retreat. This important American victory was a big push toward the desision of the the French government formally recognizing the colonist cause and to enter war as their ally.
